Use a virus PCR swab test to confirm if you currently have a COVID-19 infection
This test will check for current COVID-19 infection and tell you if you are currently infected. It is appropriate for individuals within 14 days of the onset of symptoms, or within 14 days of exposure to the COVID-19 disease.
Virus PCR tests are done by taking a swab from the nose and throat and sending it to the lab for analysis. We provide a home test kit, and you return your sample to the laboratory in the post. For a faster turnaround you can collect the test kit from our offices in Summertown, otherwise they are typically posted same-day.
The laboratory guideline turnaround time is 24-48 hours, but due to surges in demand we are not able to guarantee a result within a certain timeframe. We are not liable for any other associated costs should your results be delayed.
Results are typically sent to you directly via email, and include a travel certificate detailing: Date of sample (self-certified), Date of lab results, Test type and Laboratory accreditation.
The time it takes for you to get your result depends on how long it takes for your sample to reach the lab. You can post the sample directly to the lab (using the postage envelope included), or drop at the clinic in Oxford where we courier samples to the lab each day at 4PM.
Please order a test via our website by clicking this link. The test costs £175.
Kits ordered for collection at Mayfield Clinic can be collected from 10AM daily, or 1 hour after ordering between 9AM-6PM.
Home test kit samples can be dropped back to the clinic, where they should be left in the Mayfield Clinic Collection point to the right of our front-door. Alternatively they can be posted directly to the lab (we recommend either Royal Mail Special Delivery or Royal Mail Tracked 24). We courier each day at 3PM or 4PM, and so advise samples are returned before 3.
The home-test kit will provide you with a test result, but does not include a Doctor's certificate including the time of the test or your passport number (as required by some countries). Additionally, you will have to carry out the test on yourself.
