Frequently asked questions

How can a GP help with my skin condition?

Skin conditions can be painful, worrying and due to the external nature of symptoms can cause embarrassment. If your skin condition is affecting your day-to-day life or you are worried it is a sign of something more serious, you should see a GP who will be able to help you. During your appointment they will work with you to diagnose your condition, investigate the causes or triggers and outline the most effective treatment options for you. In some cases, specialist care may be required, in which case our GPs are able to refer you to the most appropriate specialist for you.

What skin conditions can I see a GP about?

If you are worried about anything on your skin, we can help. The most common skin conditions include eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, fungal infections and cold sores. We are also able to see you if you are worried about a mole, sun damage on the skin, a lump or cyst. GPs are also able to help with warts, verrucae, rashes and varicose veins.

What are the usual treatment options for skin conditions?

As there are so many different skin conditions, all with different causes and symptoms, there is no one treatment. Treatments for skin conditions can range from topical creams to oral medications, laser treatments to lifestyle changes. While GPs can prescribe some medication for skin conditions, others can only be prescribed by a specialist. While we don’t have a dermatologist on-site, we can refer you to a specialist from our approved network.

Can I use the service if I am hard of hearing?

Yes. Please book an in-person or video appointment with a GP online, as this will provide scope for lip-reading. In-person GP appointments also enable you to communicate in writing with the GP.

Can I use the service if I am visually impaired?

Yes. Please contact the practice on 01865423425, press option 9 and identify yourself as visually impaired. We will assist you in booking a telephone appointment with one of our GPs, who you can see in person, or who can then call you at the time of the appointment.
