Yes. Please book an in-person or video appointment with a GP online, as this will provide scope for lip-reading. In-person GP appointments also enable you to communicate in writing with the GP.

What is causing my aches and pains?

There are several illnesses where aches and pains are a predominant symptom. These include problems with blood flow, thyroid imbalances, flu, infections, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Stress, dehydration, lack of sleep and medications for other illnesses have also been shown to produce body aches and pains as well as anaemia or a deficiency of vitamin D. A GP will be able to work with you to identify what may be causing your aches and pains and ensure you get the appropriate treatment to reduce your pain.

How do I know if my aches and pains are bad enough to seek medical help?

There are a few things you can try at home to reduce your aches and pains. These include getting more sleep, reducing your stress, drinking more water. Heat can help to alleviate aches and massage and low impact exercise can improve blood flow which can ease discomfort. If after a couple of weeks you are still feeling pain, you experience a sudden increase in the intensity of the pain, have a sudden loss of muscle power or loose sensation anywhere on your body, a GP can help to identify the cause and if needed provide treatment.

How can a GP help with aches and pains?

If you have been experiencing unexplained aches or pains in your body for more than a couple of weeks, or if you are unsure whether your pain is normal, you should visit a GP. They will be able to discuss your symptoms and examine you to look for a possible underlying condition or cause of your aches and pains. They will be able to provide a treatment plan to alleviate the pain you are experiencing and treat the cause of the pain. If you know what is causing your pain and are struggling to manage the symptoms, a GP will be able to review your condition and advise on how to manage it moving forwards.
